Did it ever happen to you that despite using best skin care products, your skin still gets irritated and and feels not-taken-care? Well, it might not be a problem with your skincare products at all, it could actually be your makeup products! Makeup brushes are an essential part of our makeup bag and lately, I have learnt how important it is to regularly clean them and I have learnt it the hard way! With products getting accumulated in bristles of makeup brushes over a period time, the brushes start getting unhygienic and they in turn create problems in our skin. Hence, it would be a good practice to clean your makeup brushes once in 2 weeks or once a month depending on how frequently you use makeup.
While there are numerous brush cleaners available in the market (beauty blender cleanser solid pro is one great product), V and I always prefer DIYs over store bought. So here’s presenting my go-to recipe for cleansing and nourishing my makeup brushes.

Ingredients
- Dishwasher Soap – 2 tbsp
- Anti bacterial hand soap – 1 tbsp
- Coconut/Olive oil – 1/2 tsp
Method
Simply whisk all the ingredients together to form a homogeneous mixture and you’re done.
Now I use a cleansing brush egg like below to clean my brushes but if you don’t have one, palm of your hand works just fine.
To clean the brushes, wet your brush (ALWAYS keep the brush head downwards under tap water to make sure no water goes inside of brush where bristles are tied together), dip them in this cleansing solution and rub against your palm/brush egg in swirling motion until all the product comes out. Once done, wash the bristles with water, remove any excess water and leave them on a paper towel for a couple of hours to air dry.
The dishwasher soap helps in cleaning the brush and removing stubborn makeup products, anti bacterial soap will take care of any germs present and oil will help nourishing the bristles making them softer and last longer.
Hope this tip helps you in some or the other way. If you decide to give this a try, we would love to know the reviews!
