While there are numerous treatments available in the market which promise to give your health the care they want, it is rather easy to take good care of your hair at home with simple tips and DIY hair masks using natural ingredients instead of harsh chemicals.
In this post, we will list down simple DIY hair masks that can be made at home to provide much needed nourishment to any hair type. Lets begin with the list.
Almond/Olive/Coconut Oil Hair Mask
- 1 tbsp Almond Oil
- 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
This is the simplest hair mask of all. All you need to do is mix the 3 oils in equal proportions, warm up the concoction and apply all over scalp and hair at length. Take a towel, dip in hot water, drain excess water and cover your head with it. Shampoo after 30 minutes to see silky soft hair.
Targets – Very good for dry damaged hair and overall nourishment of hair.
- You can keep this on for longer than 30 minutes, even overnight, hot towel only applies 30 mins prior to washing.
- Use 1-2 times a week.
Coconut Milk Hair Mask
- 4-5 tbsp coconut milk
- 1 ripe banana/avocado
Mash the banana/avocado to a smooth paste, add coconut milk and mix well. Apply evenly on scalp and hair. Keep for 45-60 minutes. Use a mild shampoo to rinse off.
Targets – Very good for dry brittle hair and split ends. Can be used for overall nourishment of hair.
- Use once a week.
- for extreme dry cases, replace coconut milk with coconut cream.s
Coconut oil/Banana/Yogurt Hair Mask
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 ripe banana
- 2 tbsp plain yogurt
- 1 tsp honey
Blend all the ingredients in a blender for a smooth paste and apply evenly on scalp and hair. Keep for 45-60 mins and rinse off with a mild shampoo.
Targets – Good for dandruff, dry and damaged hair.
- Use once a week.
- You can replace coconut oil with your choice of oil.
Coconut oil/Brown sugar Hair Mask
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 1.5 tbsp brown sugar
Simply mix the two and there you have it. Apply on scalp and massage gently for 15-20 minutes covering the entire area and rinse off using a mild shampoo.
Targets – Itchy scalp
- Use once in 2 weeks.
- Add some tea tree oil for better results
Yogurt/Cocoa powder Hair Mask
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
Mix the two to form a smooth paste and apply all over scalp and hair. Leave for 45-60 minutes and rinse afterwards with a mild shampoo.
Targets – Promotes hair growth and reduces graying of hair.
- use once a week.
In all these hair masks, you can always add your choice of essential oils to make them more effective for you. Below is a list of essential oils you can add to these hair masks for different concerns.
- Tea Tree and Patchouli – Dandruff, itchiness
- Rosemary – Hair fall
- Lemongrass – Dandruff
- Cedar wood – Promotes hair growth
- Chamomile – Adds shine and soothes the scalp
- Sandalwood – Nourishes dry ends and leaves a good fragrance
