For those of you who have been following us for a while might easily categorize us into skincare geeks. 😀
We LOVE skincare. JUST. LOVE. IT.
Everyone has a skincare routine – be it spending those 30 seconds before heading to office or a dedicated bedtime ritual. While all of us have our best intentions to take best care of our skin, sometimes we commit mistakes without even realizing that it might be doing more damage to the skin than benefit. In today’s post, we will be discussing about the commonly made skincare mistakes and how to fix them.
OVER EXFOLIATING OR NOT EXFOLIATING AT ALL
Exfoliation is a technique to remove dead cells that accumulate daily. Aside from removing dry skin, it also stimulates collagen production and helps in keeping the skin firm, bright and plump. So, not exfoliating your skin at all can lead to dull, rough and dry skin.
On the other hand, people who exfoliate will know that it can be very tempting to do it daily specially when you have a breakout or acne. But exfoliating daily is a big no no as too much exfoliation can strip your face of moisture and lead to dehydration, flaking, redness and inflammation.
Recommended: Depending on the skin type, it is recommended to exfoliate once or twice a week.
EYE CREAM APPLICATION
The other common mistake that people commit is by applying eye cream directly under the eye along the waterline. Well, this could lead to puffy and irritated eyes in the morning when you wake up simply because eye cream warms up with the body temperature and travels as it seeps into the skin.
So, the correct way is to apply your eye cream is around the orbital bone (1/2 inch above upper lashline and below lower lashline). When we apply it at a distance, it travels on its own and stop right around our crow’s feet where it is required to be. Also, always use your ring finger to apply, make small dots and gently pat them in.
RIGHT TIME TO APPLY TONER
The right time to apply the toner is immediately after you cleanse your face. If the skin is left bare for more than 60 seconds, it starts to dehydrate and starts feeling tight and dry. Also, it is recommended to leave the toner damp on your skin and perform the skincare routine quickly.

NEGLECTING YOUR NECK
One of the most common skincare mistakes people make is by investing in a good and dedicated skincare routine while forgetting about the neck completely. Result – While your face might still not show the signs of ageing, the neck looks wrinkled and blotchy.
The skin on our neck is a lot thinner than the skin on our face and more prone to dryness. Keeping your neck area hydrated can slow down the ageing process significantly. While applying the cream, use long sweeping motions up towards the jawline instead of pulling the skin down towards the chest as it tends to stretch the skin resulting in sagging.
CHANGING PRODUCTS TOO QUICKLY
It’s always tempting to try on new products – serums, moisturizers, eye creams and what not!!!
But, trying on new products too often can actually slow the progress as it takes longer for products to show noticeable changes than you might think. Depending on the product, it’s hard to see a noticeable change before atleast eight weeks and by changing the product before it’s due course of time might actually leave the skin deprived of the benefits you actually purchased the product for.
Recommended: Introduce one new product in your routine at a time and give it atleast 2 weeks before introducing another product. That ways, you also know if a product suits your skin type or not.
