Turmeric: The golden powder

Turmeric powder, as per ancient Indian traditions, is a widely used spice in numerous different cuisines. Apart from being a popular spice, turmeric makes its way in many medicinal recipes as well. Turmeric is known to have tremendous anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which makes is a useful and healthy herb. From personal experience, I have been drinking tea made from raw turmeric and it has helped me a great deal in cutting the pregnancy belly fat.

Now as we know that this is a very useful thing to have, we will list down some of the most established benefits of turmeric in our day-to-day lives.

  1. Increases Immunity in Kids
    Turmeric is known to enhance immunity specially for kids. Add turmeric in your kids’ diet to provide a boost of immunity from their early ages. Turmeric milk is an absolute delight for them in this respect.
  2. Heals Bruises
    To immediately stop blood from a bruise or cut, sprinkle some turmeric on top of it. It might burn a bit but will stop the blood instantaneously and you can clean it and bandage it easily after that.
  3. Anti-inflammatory
    Curcumin, the secret weapon in the turmeric has long been known for its anti-inflammatory properties in treating arthritis. Although, curcumin accounts for 3-5% of turmeric, arthritis pain relief may require more curcumin than a person eats in a regular diet which is supplemented through additional supplements.

    Turmeric is a natural antiseptic which aides in faster healing of cuts, bruises and even burns. Regular intake of turmeric in general increases immunity and provides defense against common cold while have turmeric in case of a bruise fastens its healing.

Also known as the golden milk, it is loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compunds.

Golden milk
  1. Simply put all the ingredients in a pan and bring to a light boil for 6-8 minutes while stirring in between.
  2. Add a dash of honey and cinnamon powder on the top. Serve hot!
Recipe Notes

You can also add some grated ginger as a remedy for cold, cough and strain in the end.

Side effects

There usually are no significant side effects, however, some people can experience nausea, stomach upset, dizziness or diarrhea. Avoid taking excessively large doses of turmeric. The usage of turmeric, comes with a special precaution during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Although, it is fine when consumed in the regular quantity in cooked food, but it’s likely unsafe when taken in excess quantity as it might promote a menstrual period.

  3. I have been hearing a lot about turmeric and all the benefits that it has. I think I will need to try the face mask. Does it stain the skin? I think I have everything to try the milk tonight too!

    1. For face mask, use just a pinch of turmeric and that should be enough. Too much of it might leave a temporary yellowish hue.
